What an amazing way tea
m to kick off summer Impact! This team served alongside 4 different mission partners to provide furniture to neighbors in Cincinnati, food to children and older adults, and a safe place for kids in Over-the-Rhine.

Summer Impact 2019
Five youth and three adults from our FUMY group spent a week in Cincinnati serving a variety of organizations. The Summer Impact program is organized and hosted by the Hyde Park Community United Methodist Church. Throughout the week we were introduced to several different organizations that work to make lives better in Cincinnati.
We started the week with a Sunday evening worship service held at the Over the Rhine Community Church. Worship and devotions all week included songs from both the secular and Christian music world. Our first night, we created paint pours as we reflected on how God created all of us out of his image but we are still uniquely made. When then spent just a little time touring the Over the Rhine (OTR) Area and Washington Park.
On Monday we served in Blue Ash area at the New Life Furniture Bank. This organization provides new and gently used furniture to individuals and families coming out of homelessness. We had the opportunity to pack household items like silverware, cooking pots and pans, plates and other needed items in boxes for families. We also sorted through donations, delivered furniture and picked up donations.
On Tuesday we served at the Wesley Chapel Mission Center serving a community in the OTR area of Cincinnati. This community is riddled with violence and drugs. WCM works to make this area safer and particularly ministers to the children in the community. We helped with the kids summer day camp program, escorting the kids to the pool safely and also feeding them a good lunch before we left.
We served at the Wesley Community Services on the west side of Cincinnati on Wednesday. This organization focuses on the senior adults in the greater Cincinnati, Dayton and Kentucky areas. While we were there, we helped fill a needed volunteer role of folding boxes and filling the boxes with weekly and monthly snack items for the Meals on Wheels program
Each day before we headed out to serve, we spent some devotional time reflecting on a song and journaling our thoughts. On Thursday, after completing the devotion we headed to the UMC Foods in Kentucky. This organization is an extension Ministry of the Covington/Northern KY District of the United Methodist Church. It partners with non-profit organizations (Churches, clubs, housing authorities, governmental agencies) to provide food to children who are in areas where there is a substantial population of children who receive free and reduced lunches in their schools. Here we helped clean up fruit cups and bag 1700 snack bags for an upcoming children’s program (that’s enough for all of Fayette and more!)
Our last day in Cincinnati the group split up. Part of the group went to the Wesley Chapel Mission again and helped with the kids’ summer day camp again. The other members of our group went to the New Life Furniture Bank and helped deliver more furniture.
It was a great week spent in Cincinnati learning that even small acts like cleaning fruit cups and folding boxes can make a significant impact on others lives.
